Great Bernera

This memorial is located in the main village of Breaclet, opposite the primary school, diagonally across from the community centre, on the junction to Tacleit and Bhalasaigh. It is easily missed when travelling north through the village.

The 'kissing gate' into the memorial enclosure is a tight squeeze, and do take care not to rip clothing on the protruding spikes of the fence railings.

Great Bernera is an island off mainland Lewis, connected to that by bridge. It can be reached from the A858 (Stornoway to Carloway) road at Garynahine along the B8011 to Uig and the B8059 to Bearnaraigh, which is the Gaelic for Great Bernera.

Great Bernera can be reached by bus using the W2 service to Callanish; a change of bus is required at Garynahine where a minibus service (W3) plies to Breaclete.
